Vegetation as a major conductor of geomorphic changes on the Earth surface: toward evolutionary geomorphology

چکیده

Earth surface processes and landforms may have coadjusted with plant morphology, biomechanics and life-history. We suggest that the colonization of land by plants at the early Silurian, and their propagation inside continents, represent critical phases of the coupling between geomorphic and biological processes on the Earth at a global scale. The consideration of this coupling involving geomorphic-biological feedback mechanisms at the scales of ecological succession and organisms’ evolution may promote the emergence of an evolutionary geomorphology. Evolutionary geomorphology: thresholds and nonlinearity in landform response to environmental change

Geomorphic systems are typically nonlinear, owing largely to their threshold-dominated nature (but due to other factors as well). Nonlinear geomorphic systems may exhibit complex behaviors not possible in linear systems, including dynamical instability and deterministic chaos. The latter are common in geomorphology, indicating that small, short-lived changes may produce disproportionately large...

Presenting a Geomorphological Conceptual Model of Construction of bridges in urban floodway- river valleys

Geomorphology is related to the shapes and processes of the earthchr('39')s surface, and any human activity, including planning, that changes the shape of the earth and can cause quantitative and qualitative changes in the movement and movement of materials and kinetic energy and affect the geomorphic system. The attention and involvement of geomorphologists are included. Geomorphology, as a s...

Assessing Geomorphologic Changes of the Mehran River Delta using Remote Sensing and GIS (Bandar Lenga, Hormozgan Province)

Delta areas are dynamic features with changes occurring at many spatial and temporal scales due to catastrophic events. Change detection and providing a fluvial map of changes are the main requirements for environmental and zonal planners in many studies. Geomorphic changes such as temporal and periodic changes in riverbeds are common events in all delta areas. The Mehran river delta is located...

Application of landsat imageries for mapping post-earthquake landslide, case study: 2012 Ahar-Varzegan earthquake, NW Iran

The 2012 Ahar-Varzegan earthquake and its aftershocks have not only caused huge damage with a severe loss of life and property but also induced many geo-hazards with the major type of collapse, creep, slip, debris flow, and fallings that are generally considered as landslide in this study which can cause continuous threats to the affected region. in this study, a semi-automated geo-hazard detec...
